How to get to Malmesbury

When the rains fall between April to September transformation begins in the Western Cape. The dry hills and valleys get covered with colourful flowers, decorating the landscape as you travel through the countryside.

The wild flowers spread over the six regions of the Western Cape. Best viewed during the hottest part of the day because the flowers turn towards the sun, this is what makes The Cape West Coast famous for ~ its carpets of wildflowers that appear during the winter months.

Barely an hour’s drive away from Cape Town lies Malmesbury in the Western Cape. Look out for the famous fynbos species like the Protea or Erica. Not too far from Malmesbury is the Karoo and has the richest desert flora in the world with more than 9 000 plant species. Flowering time is dependant on rain. Malmesbury is the first stop on the Swartland Wine Tour. Vineyard plantations are abundant, and in between detect Rhenosterveld vegetation. Climate is Mediterranean. Hot dry summers, mild wet winters, although with the famous 'South-Easter' wind blowing it will cool the heat of a sweltering hot summer's day, and blow a cold chill into your bones in winter.
