About our Bed & Breakfast ~
Almond Bridge Country House
The Bell family moved to the Western Cape, Malmesbury in 1983 and purchased their first property on Smuts street. The original house, which was once a Lucerne farm, also stabled horses. 'Intensive care' was necessary to establish gardens for a suburban lifestyle. Creative ideas in training locals in needlework eventually developed into making bridal wares. The next door property was purchased and developed into a shop.
The first B&B/guesthouse was bought in 1997 for the purpose of starting a bed and breakfast. Almond Bridge, named such because the area was once known for its many Almond Trees, and the 'Bridge' from the crossing over the Diep river.
The expansions to the guesthouse is to accommodate the needs of large and small groups of people coming to Malmesbury in the Western Cape for business and tourism. But apart from this, we are equipping the accommodation for the future aimed towards Tourism. A SPA is being developed to draw extra attractions to Malmesbury. A Sulphur Spring that runs through Malmesbury has a high sulphur content, ideal for healing and restoring certain ailments in the body. Experts recently tested the water and found the quality of minerals to be of a very high value. This in comparison to other mineral springs around the world. We are developing a SPA hydro.
We are proud to be part of the heritage of Malmesbury in the Western Cape, aiming to be in a position to make job creation a reality by bringing new concepts within the tourist industry. Our further aim is to create relations with the Malmesbury municipality by encouraging tourist related projects through transport 'Steam train' type-rides from Cape Town, river sport activities on the river and upgrading the natural beauty of the river and other interests in and around town that will draw tourists.
